Yesterday, I had the opportunity to help photograph a small 60's themed wedding for Ralph Photography (www.ralphphotography.com). The civil ceremony took place at the Marylebone Town Hall. The bride arrived in a heavily beaded car wearing an above the knee navy blue dress with a white and blue coat. After the ceremony, the guests boarded an old Routemaster bus which took them to the reception. The bride previously mentioned to the main photographer that she wanted to look like Jackie Kennedy.

Old To New - New To Old

A couple years ago, I spent the better part of two weeks restoring an old picture of my grandmother. I grew up looking at this picture and admiring its timeless beauty. When I was a child, my grandmother was already an older lady with a head full of white hair and this was the only way I had to know what she looked like in her youth. I have always wanted to inherit all those beautiful old photographs that she keeps in her wardrobe so when I had the opportunity, I had to try and bring my favorite one back to its original glory. I don't know what the colors looked like before they faded and the print was in very bad shape. To complicate matters more, this was my first attempt at something like this. The result isn't perfect but it was a labor of love and my grandmother is very pleased with it, as am I.

This afternoon however, I did it all backwards. I had wanted to try this for a very long time and I finally decided to give it a go. I selected two images of two of last year's brides and processed them to make them look like an old photograph. The second image I think really works because of her pose; it makes her look almost saintly. There was a lot of trial and error but this is just an experiment. I'm not sure if I'd do it again as it is very time consuming and not to everyone's taste. I do like the result though.

Austin had a Vegas destination wedding last year and was eager to do a beach photo session in Miami. She was very fun to work with and a very good sport. I have to say I enjoyed getting her wedding dress wet and sandy! Thanks Austin!

I just received this wonderful email from Beth:

"Hi!!

We received the album and DVD yesterday..wow, June, it is simply amazing! The album is not like anything that we have seen before.. it is absolutely beautiful. It was beyond our expectations, you really put together a perfect memory for us.

I was dying to call you so you would know how incedibly excited we were over it.. but I knew you were in the US visiting your parents and did not know how to reach you. Even my father, the stubborn old man who never admits to liking anything, commented on how beautiful it was and how you have an artistic eye. He tried to steal it to show it off at his office, but he couldn't get it out of my sight quite yet. As I have said before, June, you are truly talented and we feel lucky and priviledged to have had you part of our wedding day.

Oh, not to forget all the great pictures on the DVD.. you are so creative. Each and every one was wonderful."

First of all, I'd like to thank Beth and Jason for having so much trust in me and hiring me all the way from Wisconsin, USA. I truly enjoyed photographing your wedding.

Beth and Jason exchanged vows on a cold but sunny day in South Milwaukee. Beth walked down the aisle to a beautiful violin played by one of her bridesmaids while Jason waited at the altar with a big smile on his face.

The intimate, fall themed reception took place at the beautiful American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. They enjoyed a succulent dinner followed by an ice cream sundae bar.

Jo and John's Wedding, September 16th 2006

Jo and John tied the knot in Lichfield, followed by a small but very fun reception in Tixall. The children played with the bubble machine and the giant Jenga before dinner. The guests were provided with mini Jenga sets and paper ball blow out cannons, which even the adults had too much fun with. John wore his Army uniform as did his best man.

Amanda and Wayne's Wedding, September 9th 2006

Amanda and Wayne said their vows in a small village church in Suffolk in company of their family and close friends. The reception took place in a beautifully kept manor house nearby where they treated their guests to a quiet meal. The grand finale was a colorful fireworks display.

Natasha and Paul got married at a small village church near Bournemouth, Dorset. It was a rainy and windy day but they didn't let that put a damper on their day. They are off to their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.

Ellen and Alex had a short and intimate ceremony this morning at the Burgh House in Hampstead. It was a very relaxed event full of joy. They were joined by their families and closest friends at a lunch reception following the ceremony.

I spent Saturday afternoon walking around London taking pictures with a group of 10 other photographers. Some of us get together every 4 months or so for a meal and some photography. We like to walk around, see new places, meet new people and just have a good time. This time I was the organizer and I took the group for a walk around the Temple area. Unfortunately, due to security reasons, most of the gates were closed so we had to take a big detour to get into the Middle Temple but it was worth it. Being a weekend, the place was deserted, really beautiful. Then we walked from Holborn tube all the way to the London Eye. It was a long walk but full of photo opportunities. I had a great time and I am looking forward to the next get together.
